Madison engineer Jim Guither has applied for a patent for his rain barrel diverter. That's a device that takes rain from your downspout, and sends it to a rain barrel. Jim's diverter switches rain back to the downspout when the barrel is full, and also avoids becoming clogged by leaves in the water.
Rain barrels allow homeowners to lower their water bills by using stored rainwater for gardening. Rain barrels also help the community reduce flooding and improve the health of our lakes.
